Sahel Academy
Dear Coach [Miss Amber Marshall],
You may think I'm crazy but I wanted to run this idea by you.
The impression I've had is that when people decide they want to support missionaries, they tend to choose families or couples working in what is seen as "real missionary work" (church planting, evangelism, translation, health work) and not young single teachers or dorm assistants working at missionary schools. There seems to be a general lack of understand of how crucial those roles are, not only to us as MKs (misssionary kids) but to the school, the dorm parents and OUR parents. By having people like you working in places like Sahel Academy, it allows our parents to be SO much more effective in their ministries. So, by supporting you to be a dorm assistant at Sahel Academy, your supporters would actually be supporting Church Planters in villages in northern Ghana, Counselors in Accra, Agriculture Workers in Timbuktu and missionaries from all sorts of ministries working in all sorts of countries: Benin, Niger, Cote D'Ivoire and more.
But so many people don't realize that. So this is my idea (sorry for taking so long to get to the point): Who is better to inform your prospective supporters of what an impact you could have in the lives of so many than the very people who have been and will be impacted by your ministry. We, the MKs, and more specifically dorm kids and ex-dorm kids.
I thought that (if you thought it was a good idea) I could get all the kids who know you from the dorm and all the kids who are in the dorm right now, even maybe some kids who know you as our beloved "Coach" to write some tidbits about the impact you've had on our lives and how much of a help you would be to our dorm parents, "Uncle" Tim and "Aunt" Janice by being in Niger. I could then put it all together into a sort of compilations, basically saying "Please support Coach" and I could email it to people who you think could be prospective supporters.
Now maybe this is a completely crazy idea and it wouldn't help at all but I didn't want to just push it to the back of my mind without actually asking you. So please, please write and let me know what you think. I love you, Coach. I miss you a lot and am praying for you.
Your sister in Christ,
Rianna
